Explanatory notes:
Northeast monsoon with the monsoon trough within the vicinity of the region today moving northwards from Thursday.
A line of rain,showers and thunderstorms affected western parts of West Coast States today with low level wind convergence of northwesterly winds.
The heavy rainfall episode over the northern part of the Peninsula continues until Thursday as predicted by many weather models including the GFS and ECMWF .This heavy rainfall episode is being accompanied by the development of a tropical low within the vicinity of Northern Peninsula Malaysia.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued severe(formerly known as amber or orange) and alert(formerly known as yellow) heavy rain warnings for the northern part of the Peninsula.Please see http://www.met.gov.my/web/metmalaysia/weatherwarning/heavyrain for the latest heavy rain warnings.
The chances of rain over the region decreases late during the working week as the monsoon trough moves slightly to the north leading to westerly winds penetrating the 900 hPa-500 hPa level.
Chances of rain increases back early next week as the monsoon trough moves slightly south.
