Explanatory notes:
Northeast monsoon throughout the forecast period with the monsoon trough within the vicinity of the region,as a result wet weather conditions especially early to mid week with the development of a tropical low east of the east coast.
The only factor possibly suppressing rainfall over west coast states is high clouds from the monsoon rainfall area over the east coast spreading over much of the Peninsular limiting solar heating and thus limiting convection.
The heavy rainfall episode over the east coast states continues until later during the working week as predicted by many weather models including the GFS and ECMWF .This heavy rainfall episode would be accompanied by the development of a tropical low within the vicinity of Northern Peninsula Malaysia and this could lead to especially wet weather conditions throughout the Peninsula from Monday to Wednesday.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued severe(formerly known as amber or orange) and alert(formerly known as yellow) heavy rain warnings for the east coast states and also Perlis, parts of Kedah and parts of Perak. Please see http://www.met.gov.my/web/metmalaysia/weatherwarning/heavyrain for the latest heavy rain warnings.
The chances of rain over the region decreases late during the working week as the monsoon trough moves slightly to the north leading to westerly winds penetrating the 900 hPa-500 hPa level.
