Update:

A mesoscale convective system has formed within the vicinity of the region.The forecast has been updated to reflect that.

Low level winds will be light and variable with the development of sea breezes especially likely as the doldrums form over the region until late next week.During next Wednesday and Thursday light northwesterly low level winds persist over the Straits of Melaka and the west coast states of Peninsular Malaysia as atmospheric pressure over the northern Bay of Bengal increases.

Throughout the forecast period,Moist and unstable atmosphere persist over the region with the development of sea breezes likely with sea breeze convergence and/or anabatic lifting of sea breezes likely till Tuesday then sea breezes still likely but with sea breeze convergence possibly supressed from Wednesday due to the light low level northwesterly flow supressing the development of the southwesterly sea breeze but anabatic lifting lifting of sea breezes still likely.This will lead to significant chances of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon.

From next Tuesday the steering flow is also expected to be from the southwest as both the monsoon trough and southern monsoon trough moves north.This leads to chances of showers and thunderstorms during the early hours and morning,mainly near the coast as showers and thunderstorms develop over the Straits of Melaka due to land breeze convergence and are steered towards the coast.

From Friday typical wet season conditions as the atmosphere becomes very moist and unstable with prevailing easterly low level winds over the region with a steering flow somewhat from the east as subtropical high pressure over the Northwestern Pacific expands and strengthens.Sea breeze convergence and/or the anabatic lifting of sea breezes are likely leading to the development of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon/evening hours and the steering flow steers these to the west.
